The WWGS Global Passport

The ÃÛÌÒ¸£ÀûÎçÒ¹¾«Æ·Ò»Çø (WWGS) Global Passport is a tool developed to support post-primary education settings with their Global Citizenship Education (GCE) activities. It can be used as a planning tool and as recognition for good practice in GCE.

From 2025, the Global Passport and Grant Funding SupportÌý for post-primary settingsÌý are combined. This means that in order to avail ofÌý grant funding for GCE, you are required to complete and submit aÌý Global Passport Application. In other words, the new Global Passport replaces the WWGS Grant Application Form and the WWGS End of Year Grantee Report. From now on, all post-primary settings involved in the programme areÌý required to only complete a single form, the new Global Passport Application!

What is the Global Passport?

The Global Passport is a Global Citizenship Education (GCE) EU accredited, quality mark, which offers post-primary settings (schools, youthreach centres and other education settings) a framework to integrate GCE into all aspects of student life. The Global Passport is a self-assessed and externally audited accreditation for GCE which aims to support, strengthen, and sustain effective whole-school GCE. Through the Global Passport, post-primary settings can also apply for grant support of up to €800 per year to support whole school embedding of GCE in their setting. What happens when I apply for Global Passport?

When you apply for a Global Passport you will be asked to reflect on your level of engagementÌýwith Global Citizenship Education in six areas (passport stamps) of school life:

1. Curricular
2. Extra Curricular
3. Teacher Capacity and Engagement
4. Student Capacity and Engagement
5. Leadership
6. Community Engagement

Your school will assess your education setting's current Global Citizenship Education in each of these stamps and allocate points accordingly.

The total score achieved in all six stamps will determine what level of Global Passport your education setting will attain. The Global Passport levels are:

  • Global Passport Applicant (1-29 points): For settings with emerging engagement with GCE.
  • Citizen’s Passport (30-59 points): For settings who are building their GCE capacity.
  • Diplomatic Passport (60-89 points): For settings with established engagement with GCE.
  • Higher Diplomatic Passport (90-119 points): For settings with highly established engagement with GCE.
  • Special Passport (120-150 points): For settings with exceptional engagement with GCE.
